For the third year, I'm participating in the Baltimore Running Festival for Miles for Mothers. On Sunday, October 19, I'll be running the half marathon. I know just how fortunate I am to have two healthy little boys who will be there to cheer me on. I'm excited for the opportunity to raise money to meet critical needs of families in South Sudan and more families be able to watch their children grow up healthy.
In the wake of South Sudan’s ongoing years-long civil war—creating one of the world’s largest refugee crises—tens of thousands of displaced individuals still live in makeshift camps without access to essential lifesaving care. The devastating aftermath of this humanitarian crisis led South Sudan to having the fifth highest maternal mortality rate in the world and an ongoing HIV epidemic. Jhpiego is providing HIV and other services to pregnant women and vulnerable populations in two camps in Juba. These sites operate under the umbrella of the United Nations Mission to respond to the HIV epidemic among displaced women and children.
Money raised through Miles for Mothers will go directly to buy these supplies for South Sudan:
• Diagnostic medical supplies and clinical equipment
• Supplies for community health workers, including medicine delivery bags and bicycles
• Clinic space improvements, including beds, benches, tables and chairs
A little is a lot, it helps. My goal is to raise $1000 before the run, and I thank you in advance for making it possible.
