In the wake of South Sudan’s ongoing years-long civil war—creating one of the world’s largest refugee crises—tens of thousands of displaced individuals still live in makeshift camps without access to essential lifesaving care. Currently, two camps located in Juba are experiencing overwhelming supply shortages and related challenges. For this year's Miles for Mothers, Jhpiego is raising funds to save lives in this war-ravaged nation. Our goal is $31,000 to purchase diagnostic medical supplies and clinical equipment, supplies for community health workers, and clinic space improvements. Join us by walking, running, donating or sponsoring a participant to keep moms and babies healthy!
This year, we are running in the Baltimore Running Festival to support Miles for Mothers, a program initiative of Jhpiego.
Jhpiego, where Sarah is an intern in the Policy & Advocacy Unit, is a nonprofit affiliate of Johns Hopkins University and seeks to create and deliver transformative health care solutions in partnership with national governments, health experts, and local communities by building the skills of health providers, developing systems that save lives, and guarantee healthier futures for women and their families.
Miles for Mothers is an annual program of Jhpiego's to fundraise for a specific project that the organization is working on. This year, all fundraising through Miles for Mothers will support medical equipment for the camps in South Sudan. South Sudan is conitnuing to face a refugee crisis after a multi-year civil war. Currently, tens of thousands of people in South Sudan are living in makeshift camps, which are under-funded and lack critical medical equipment for the populations that rely on them. This humanitarian crisis has led to incredibly high maternal mortality rates, and the camps are often unequipped to provide quality health services. Money from Miles for Mothers will directly support medical equipment for South Sudan, including:
This year, we are running the 5K in the Baltimore Running Festival to fundraise for Miles for Mothers. We are both passionate about the delivery of quality health services, particularly in communities that lack access to quality care, health education, and affordable health services. We also share a love of running and couldn't think of a more perfect way to support women and their families. Thank you for your support!
Sarah's good family friend (and best friend's mom), Karen Waller, is also joining us on the 5K to support Jhpiego!
