Last year, Dan and I ran the 5K in the Baltimore Running Festival to raise money for Miles for Mothers with Jhpiego. With a shared love for running, we were excited to run for a cause, joining the Miles for Mothers Team in raising money for medical equipment in South Sudan. As part of our fundraising, we had promised -- or least Dan had promised -- that if we exceeded our fundraising goal, we would get a poodle puppy. Well, we followed through and were excited to welcome Maple, an apricot standard poodle, to our small family in May.
This year, Miles for Mothers looks a bit different. The Baltimore Running Festival will be virtual -- though the running will still be real! Due to the more virtual nature of the event, Miles for Mothers is going global, welcoming Jhpiego colleagues and fundraisers around the globe. As the global community continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jhpigeo is focusing the Miles for Mothers campaign on personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline healthworkers around the globe who continue to battle the pandemic -- emphasizing the importance of access to PPE and education on effective use of PPE. These materials include things like:
- Medical grade masks (including N95s)
- Disposable gloves
- Surgical gowns
- Safety goggles
- Cloth masks
- Hand sanitizer
We are excited to run to support Miles for Mothers, Jhpiego, and frontline healthworkers who are leading the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
