Join Jhpiego’s 10th anniversary Miles for Mothers and “run the world” to bring lifesaving care to a community in need. For over 50 years, Jhpiego, a Johns Hopkins University affiliate has been providing transformative health care solutions that save lives in places with limited health care.
Nonetheless, every year, through the Miles for Mothers campaign, Jhpiego’s staff select and, with friends like you, raise funds for a smaller project that meets a pressing need in one of our partner countries. Last year we improved a hospital and health center in Malawi that had been devastated by Cyclone Ana.
This year, we are raising funds to build a much-needed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Kwimba District in Mwanza Region of Tanzania’s Lake Zone. Currently, all sick, low birthweight and premature newborns must be transferred to the regional hospital, which is more than 60 miles away over rough roads—not a journey any mother would want to take their newborn on.
You can help! Run or walk a 5k, 10k, half or full marathon—or donate—with participants from around the world to raise funds to provide lifesaving health care to newborns in Kwimba.
Support Miles for Mothers by running or walking your distance on your own “course” October 7 to 14, 2023, or in-person at your own pace on October 14th at the Baltimore Running Festival. If you can’t walk or run this year, consider being a sponsor or donating directly to support Miles for Mothers. We also encourage you to reach out to friends, family, and colleagues to get involved.
All—100%—donations raised through Miles for Mothers will go directly to construction of the new NICU in the Kwimba District.
